We’re all looking for ways to save money these days. I’m tired of hearing about the economic crisis, recession, down-turn or whatever you choose to call it, but we can’t ignore the fact that it’s crucial to save money both at home and in the workplace. Earplug Dispensers can help cut costs by purchasing your earplugs at a lower bulk cost AND by preventing waste.

When you need earplugs for the workplace, the best way to buy them is in bulk. Earplugs, of course, last forever, so you don’t need to worry about over-buying. Whether you need a high level of hearing protection or a means to allow your employees hearing protection and still allow communication, Moldex offers a solution. You can even purchase colourful Moldex Spark Plug earplugs in a bulk dispenser, offering a fun and highly effective solution for hearing protection.

Simply purchase the earplug dispenser wall mount, attach it to the wall and place the dispenser on the mount. All of the Moldex bulk earplug dispensers are designed to fit on the wall mount, so if you change your earplug from Purafit earplugs to Spark Plug earplugs, you won’t have to purchase another wall mount.

The dispensers are designed to drop one pair at a time into the hands of your employees, so you won’t end up with bunches of unusable earplugs on a dirty floor. The dispenser has no tray that has to be dusted either! Any time I can avoid dusting, I do!

Not only that, but you can be sure that compliance will increase. Earplug Dispensers are highly visible, so your employees will see the earplugs and remember to grab a pair. They are also very convenient, which makes it easier for your employees to grab a pair rather than searching through the safety closet or safety supply box.

The bright green colour of Mack’s Purafit earplugs makes it easy to check compliance. The dispensers, whether Moldex Purafit earplugs or Moldex Mellows earplugs are very easy for safety inspectors to spot. This will save you from fines that may be incurred for non-compliance.

There are other useful bulk earplugs, but if you have a high volume of employees, the earplug dispensers might be your best solution!

Apparently, farmers are being told to wear hearing protection due to the noise level of pigs during feeding. The little oinkers squeal to the tune of 100dB or more while being fed! Remember that hearing can be damaged in as little as 15 minutes at 100 dB, so I guess if Farmer Joe wants to keep his hearing, he’s going to need some protection.

According to the NASD (National Ag Safety Database, United States), farmers have more hearing loss than other occupations. If you think about it, farmers are independent and therefore not governed by the usual safety laws that protect employees in an industrial setting by forcing compliance. So, even though many of the noises on a farm are at decibel levels high enough to cause hearing damage in a short time, the farmer may or may not protect his or her hearing or that of the hired help.

Hearing protection is one of the most inexpensive safety measures that exist. A simple Moldex Purafit 250 Pair Station is inexpensive, will supply hearing protection for 250 pig feedings and can be easily mounted outside the feeding facility for convenience. Another way to go for hearing protection on the farm would be reusable earplugs.

I wonder what other types of farming noises can cause hearing damage? A tractor carrying a heavy load is around 90 decibels. A petrol fueled grass cutter is 96 decibels. Doing some repairs or clearing some pasture? A circular saw and chainsaw both have noise levels of 100 decibels.

I had a hard time finding information on noise levels of farm critters other than pigs, but I imagine a barn full of dairy cows mooing during milking would be noisy, as would the milking equipment. What about neighing nags, braying donkeys and bleating sheep? (This is starting to sound like one of my son’s animal books!)

I found that llamas scream from time to time and “orgle” while they mate. Ostriches boom, which is an eery sound, but not necessarily damaging, so I suppose the ostrich farmers are safe.

I did find a story about some annoying chickens that were bothering the neighbourhood and a tragic story about 800 chickens who met their end via firecrackers. The noise literally scared them to death! Lawsuit pending.

As for the neighbours with the crowing roosters and cackling hens, I would suggest some sleeping earplugs. I’m sorry to report, however, that I don’t know of any hearing protection for the chickens themselves.

Cheers for now!

And you were worried about the new neighbour with the yapping pup! Be happy he didn’t bring a potbelly pig to the neighbourhood. According to a recent press release, pig owners beware! The noise from the little piggies during feeding can reach levels of 100 decibels which is enough to damage hearing in as little as 15 minutes of exposure per day.

The press release mentioned purchasing JenGen Blue Tassel Earplugs so the pet-owning celebs would look posh while feeding their piggies, but I would have to suggest something a bit more masculine for Mr. Clooney such as Heartech SilentEar earplugs or Moldex Purafit earplugs. I’m not sure a paparazzi pic with George wearing Audrey Hepburn style earplugs would do much for his dating life!

What about other pets? A couple of pooches yapping indoors might produce a noise level of 100 decibels. Birds can be rather noisy. The more exotic you go, the higher the noise level. The Moluccan cockatoo has a scream that can reach 135 decibels!

You’ll be fairly safe with silent snakes, chatty cavies and mewing kitties (unless you are the lady on the block with 30 cats!). If you opt for a chicken, pick the hen because the rooster is sure to wake the entire neighbourhood.

I’m not sure anyone can purchase a Howler monkey (or why they’d want to!), but apparently they are the loudest animal on land with a growl that can be heard 5 km away. A blue whale is the loudest mammal with a noise level of 188 decibels, of course that’s just a silly idea for a pet unless of course one should have ocean-side property.

As far as domesticated animals go, if you own a pig or a pack of pooches, you should seriously consider hearing protection. If your neighbour is the one with the ear-splitting swine or barking pack of beagles, you may want to look into some foam earplugs or plan on some sleepless nights and more than one headache!

Cheers for now!
