Poolside or beachside, if you or your children plan to take a dip in the pool, you might consider protecting your ears from annoying swimmer’s ear or painful ear infections. There’s nothing like a painful ear infection to ruin your child’s summer vacation! And yours, for that matter when you are up all night taking temperatures and administering antibiotics.

Why is it that the ear infection always occurs at the weekend when the doctor is away playing golf? Those urgent or emergency care visits certainly add up, don’t they? I’m still paying on one from the last holiday!

Do you have a vacation planned? You’ve probably been thinking about what you’ll pack and whether you really need this outfit or that pair of shoes. If you have children, you have even more concerns about what to pack and what can be left at home.

You might not even be considering one item. You may not use earplugs at home, but when you travel, you may find yourself wishing you had some in your suitcase! Uncomfortable flights, noisy trains, roaring motorcycles and the strange sounds at a hotel may simply be an annoyance and some can actually be damaging to your ears. Earplugs May Save Your Child’s Hearing!

I’m sure like any parent, you pay close attention to your child’s safety needs. We have rule in our house that requires states ‘If it has wheels and your on it, you better have a helmet on or you lose the wheels!’ As well, I douse them with sunscreen and make sure they take their vitamins every morning.

I do all those things and more to protect my children, but I have to confess that I hadn’t thought much about protecting their ears with children’s earplugs. After all, I’m an 80s child who spent many hours listening to heavy metal bands (yes, my children are familiar with ACDC and more!) and attending loud rock concerts.
