Have you been feeling a bit sluggish? Do you have frequent colds or infections? Have you been a little more irritable than normal or encountering mood swings? If you haven’t been sleeping well due to noise or other sleeping distractions, then you might be experiencing many health problems. Sleeping earplugs may be just what you need to improve your health now and for the future.
A while back, we moved to a different house and sleeping became very difficult for me. Our new neighbours and their barking dog who I swear, barked louder than any dog I’d ever heard, kept me up at night. My husband had started snoring again because he’d gained back some of the weight he lost. I thought I’d lose my mind!
Adequate sleep is so important for our overall health. Sleep deprivation can cause a host of health issues such as obvious fatigue, sluggishness, cloudy thinking and irritability. Over time, sleep deprivation can also manifest into very serious health problems such as weight gain, diminished cardiovascular health, poor neurological health and decreased immunity.
Sleeping earplugs may be necessary if there’s nothing you can do about the noises that are disturbing your sleep. I tried some that I found at a local drug store, but they were so uncomfortable that although the noise was blocked, I couldn’t keep them in for very long because the sleeping earplugs were now distracting me.
I have small ears, so finding a pair of earplugs that fit comfortably and sealed out the barking dog and my snoring husband wasn’t easy. A friend told me about custom earplugs that are made by having an impression taken of your ears (sort of like a dental impression but with different material) and then a lab designs the earplugs so that they fit perfectly.
This sounded good, but having this done through a healthcare professional would have been quite expensive. Fortunately, ProGuard Custom Sleep Earplugs offers an affordable solution that was really simple. Macks Pillow Soft Earplugs are even more affordable and work for many different ear types.
My husband has since lost the weight and quit snoring, but Barney the dog next door is still barking away and I’m so thankful that I don’t have to let him disturb my sleep! My energy levels are back to normal and I don’t have to worry about lack of sleep affecting my health anymore.
In my search for a sleeping solution, I found a lot of helpful advice on improving sleep quality. For instance, did you know that when you shop for a new mattress, you should take your sleeping partner with you and try out the bed? Well, there’s only so much you can do to test a mattress in a public store, but in all seriousness, you should lie on the bed together for at least 5 minutes, switching sleeping positions.
Another little trick is to make sure your room is ‘sleepable.’ Not only should you have soothing, tranquil colours for your bedroom decor such as blue or green, but it’s a good idea to eliminate ‘work’ related items. Many of us keep a computer or piece of exercise equipment in our bedrooms, but the mere site of these items when you are trying to fall asleep may subconsciously stimulate your brain because you associate work with these items.
Hope this helps!
Cheers for now!
