I’m very excited for this summer’s music concerts, are you? Some of my favourite musicians are coming to town and I’ve already purchased the tickets. I’ve also made another purchase for the first time: Musician’s earplugs! Why? Well, for one, I want to protect my ears so I can continue to enjoy music for the rest of my life. The other reason is one I hadn’t realized until last summer. The quality of music is incredible when you use musician’s earplugs.
Permanent hearing damage can occur in a short time, and if you’re a regular concert goer or just an occasional attendee, you need to protect your ears. Many famous musicians such as Pete Townshend have experienced hearing loss in one or both ears. DJ’s, club goers and concert goers have reported developing tinnitus which is a constant, painful ringing in the ears making it difficult to sleep and causing dizziness and loss of equilibrium.
Volumes at concerts and clubs can easily exceed 85 decibels which is officially the level at which you can incur hearing loss. Many people of my generation have been found to have partial hearing loss after decades of enjoying their favourite tunes at blaring levels and attending hard rock concerts. However, it’s not only the type of music because even lighter styles can reach very high decibels.
Last summer, a friend of mine gave me a pair of inexpensive musician’s earplugs when we attended Glastonbury Festival. I was grateful for them when I looked around me during a performance and noticed a few folks rubbing their foreheads and covering their ears. We were near the front and the blaring pounding coming from the Band’s drums was causing a few folks discomfort.
Of course, I’m sure they enjoyed the music nonetheless, but I was certainly enjoying it more without the discomfort. Not only that, but Im telling you, the sound was incredible! The harmful noise levels were reduced while allowing a higher quality (recording studio quality!) into my ears.
Custom musician’s earplugs are even cooler because they are moulded so comfortably and matched so perfectly to your ears that this makes the sound quality even better. They were a bit costly, but I managed to fit them into my concert budget and Im really excited to see how they work. I’ll report back later and let you know!
Cheers for Now!
